Biography

Samuel Hughes was born about 1751.1 Between 1785 and 1811, Samuel Hughes served as one of the first commissioners when Havre de Grace was incorporated in Harford County, Maryland.3 In 1787, Samuel Hughes was a member of the vestry of the Spesutia Church (Protestant Episcopal) in St. George's Parish, Harford County, Maryland.3 He executed a land record to receive it from Gregory Farmer on 28 July 1789.1 In March 1791, Samuel Hughes was a county judge in Harford County, Maryland.3 In March 1801, Samuel Hughes served on the petit jury in Harford County, Maryland.3 In March 1801, Samuel Hughes was referred to by the title "Colonel." In 1815, Samuel Hughes was a member of the vestry of the Spesutia Church (Protestant Episcopal) in St. George's Parish, Harford County, Maryland.3

A Surety Bond is a guarantee of payment for applicable taxes.3 In August 1774, Joseph Norris posted a Surety Bond for William Wells to get a tavern license. A Surety Bond is a guarantee of payment for applicable taxes.3 He was listed in the tax record of 24 February 1778 in Gunpowder Upper Hundred, Harford County, Maryland.4 On 3 March 1778 Joseph Norris signed the Oath of Fidelity and Support before John Love in Harford County, Maryland.5
