Biography

Jacob Markey, Sr., was born in 1750.1 He married Margaret Klinefelter about 1774.1 He was the father at the baptism of Henry Markey on 17 October 1784 at Fissel's (Jerusalem) Church in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania.2 Jacob Markey, Sr., was the father at the baptism of Margaret Markey in 1794 at Fissel's (Jerusalem) Church in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania.3 On 29 July 1807, was listed as owing the estate of (Johann) Micheal Klinefelter about 26 pounds.4 He was a named son-in-law in a petition regarding the estate of Johann Michael Klinefelter on 7 November 1809.5 Jacob Markey, Sr., was named as executor in the will of John Kunkel on 11 July 1816. Jacob Markey, Sr., made a will on 16 March 1821. The executors were John Markey and Amos Markey. Simon Markey was named as heir. Michael Markey, Henry Markey, and Elizabeth Markey were mentioned in the will.1 Jacob Markey, Sr., died on 6 May 1822 at age ~72.1 He was buried after 6 May 1822 at Gunpowder Baptist Church Cemetery in Freeland, Baltimore County, Maryland.1

Margaret Markey was born on 17 December 1794.1,2 She was baptised in 1794 at Fissel's (Jerusalem) Church in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania. The sponsors were Henry Markey and Susannah.2 Margaret Markey was a named grandchild, deceased, in a petition regarding the estate of Johann Michael Klinefelter on 7 November 1809.3 She married Charles Gore about 1814.3 She died on 5 April 1819 Please note that the birth and death dates might be for a different Margaret Markey, as the gravestone cited for the dates does not show her married name of GORE. It is known this Margaret was deceased when her grandfather's estate was being settled (Nov 7, 1809) and she had already been married at that time. at age 24.1 She was buried after 5 April 1819 at Gunpowder Baptist Church Cemetery in Freeland, Baltimore County, Maryland.1

Simon Markey was also known as Samuel Markey. He was born on 26 December 1786 in Baltimore County, Maryland. He was baptised on 16 April 1787 at Fissel's (Jerusalem) Church in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania. Johannes Heinrich Kunkel and Elisabeth Christina Klinefelter witnessed the baptism. Simon Markey was a named grandchild in a petition regarding the estate of Johann Michael Klinefelter on 7 November 1809.1 Simon Markey married Nancy Marshall in 1820. On 16 March 1821, Simon Markey was named as an heir in the will of Jacob Markey, Sr., receiving part of a tract called Markeys Luck.2 On 26 September 1832, Simon Markey lived in Maryland.3 He died on 14 August 1858 in Shrewsbury Township, York County, Pennsylvania, at age 71.

John Kunkel was born about 1750.1 He married Anna Barbara Klinefelter about 1781.1 On 29 July 1807, was listed as owing the estate of (Johann) Micheal Klinefelter about 69 pounds.2 He was a named son-in-law in a petition regarding the estate of Johann Michael Klinefelter on 7 November 1809.1 John Kunkel made a will on 11 July 1816. The executor was Jacob Markey, Sr.. John Kunkel died between 11 July 1816 and 13 August 1816. He had his estate probated on 13 August 1816.
